From Patu Ngākau to Mauri Ora: The Cycle of HealingResilience refers to the capacity of an individual to restore good mental and emotional health following the onset of challenging and adverse situations - Mentor ADEPIS as cited by MacDonald (2013) Whether seeking to address difficult behaviour, develop resilience, or respond to trauma, this framework, from patu ngākau to mauri ora, the cycle of healing, seeks to provide both a theoretical basis for understanding the needs of individuals and families and whānau with regards to adversity and trauma, as well as ways in which to provide specific supports to promote resilience and enhanced wellbeing.
